In the department of Biophysics
and Biophysical Chemistry, fundamental principles from physics,
chemistry and biology are applied to gain molecular and structural
insights into the mechanisms and mechanics of medically relevant
biological processes. A broad range of structural
and quantitative techniques including x-ray crystallography, microcalorimetry
and fluorescence spectroscopy are used to study problems in exciting
areas ranging from structure-aided drug design to cell signalling
and transcriptional silencing.
