Dr. Puri in the Berger Lab will present “How to load areplicative helicase onto DNA: instructions not included

Dr.Puri received her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Stony BrookUniversity, NY. Her thesis project focused on discovery and biochemicalcharacterization of a novel accessory protein for the bacterial Lon protease.Earlier this year, she joined the Berger group to learn biophysical andstructural biology techniques to answer questions pertaining to complexbiological machineries. At this meeting, Dr. Puri will discuss some of the workshe has done with the E. coli DnaC helicase loader. Althoughthe players of the bacterial replicative machinery have been known for a longtime, we still don’t completely understand how these moving parts come togetherto open up the circular DNA and load replicative helicase. Her work aims toanswer how DNA sensing and ATP-hydrolysis by DnaC is coupled to helicaseloading.
