Facilities for X- Ray Crystallography
(Located in 623 WBSB)
We have a fully equipped X-ray laboratory that is maintained as a departmental facility and staffed by a full-time manager. Equipment includes:
- Three Rigaku RU-200 rotating anode X-ray generators
- Two R-AXIS IV image plate detectors with mirrors
- R-AXIS II image plate detector with mirrors
- Siemens multiwire detector
- Three SGI computers and one PC to run the data collection devices
- A data mirror archive server with two DVD-R writers for backups
- Cryo-cooling on all detectors
- Constant temperature room for crystal growth

Computer Resources
The groups in the Department of Biophysics and Biophysical Chemistry share a departmental computing facility staffed by a full-time systems manager. The equipment includes a 30 node GNU/Linux cluster. Each node contains two 64 bit Opteron processors and there are also 5 computational workstations containing 4 Opteron CPUs each. Our file servers have a combined capacity of 3.9 terabytes, and we have a second cluster comprising 8 CPUs for email and computational work. Addtionally, there are over 24 workstations, a Tektronix Phaser 740 color laser printer, several black and white laser printers, and an HP 4650dn Color LaserJet printer. |
