  • Aging of a new 0.3mm filament

    For each increase in voltage (yellow background in the table below), the current must be dropped to the new lower value before the voltage is increased (yellow bars in table).
    The following times are minimum times. If the vacuum has not decreased to a reasonable level (~80-85mV on the voltmeter/vacuum gauge) or to the level reached at the previous voltage/current setting, then it is better to wait before increasing the voltage or current further. The better the vacuum is, the longer the filament life will be.

    The maximum voltage and current is 50kV and 100mA for a 0.3mm filament and a copper anode.
