Haobo Wang receives Daniel Nathans Research Award

Congratulations to Dr. Haobo Wang, a postdoctoral fellow in the Twomey Lab, for winning the 2026 Daniel Nathans Award as part of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Young Investigator’s Day. This honor is in recognition of Dr. Wang’s work to characterize the delta-type glutamate receptors, which were thought to be dormant ion channels in the nervous system. In a 2025 paper published in Nature, Dr. Wang demonstrated that they are very much active ion channels, and showed how disease-related mutations can alter their structure and function. His work is providing new foundations for therapeutic design against neurological diseases.
